Because of the emphasis on service, accessibility and advocacy, she has continued to work at federally qualified health centers (FQHCs) throughout her 20-year career.ĭr. After graduating from the UCSF School of Medicine, she obtained a Master of Public Health at the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health and went on to complete her residency in Family Medicine at UC Davis.Īt her first job at La Clinica de la Raza in the San Francisco Bay Area, she discovered the positive impact of the community clinic model, which provides care for the most vulnerable and complex patients while leading change to improve access and quality. She moved to the United States at age 17 to attend Smith College, where she majored in Biology and spent her junior year abroad in Paris. Florio spent her childhood in Mexico, first living in Cholula, Puebla, and then in Mexico City. Florio loves working alongside residents and strives to provide a supportive environment where learners can develop their skills and pursue their career objectives while preserving their love for the specialty and the joy of caring for others.ĭr. With an emphasis on good communication, fostering compassion, and attention to the needs of others, she promotes humanism in medicine that benefits both patients and health care workers. She is passionate about the specialty of Family Medicine and about caring for those with the greatest needs. Florio joined the AltaMed family after spending 17 years as a clinician educator at UC Irvine, and more recently, at UC San Francisco (UCSF). In her role, she focuses on recruiting doctors who are committed to serving ethnically diverse communities – both by providing culturally sensitive care and developing programs that inspire minorities to pursue careers in health care.ĭr.
